Learn
to Play Guitar
tutorial by Tim Rendle (I'm no master but I can pass a few
tips on...)
1. Buy yourself a guitar. You will get
more reward from learning on a better guitar but there are
plenty of good second-hand guitars out there if you have
a good ear. If you know someone that plays show them the
guitar before you buy it. They will know a duffer when they
hear one.
An acoustic guitar is harder to play
than an electric, but if you learn on an acoustic you will
play nicer chords and be able to sound great on an electric
guitar. An electric guitar can make you sound like a Rock
God even if you get chords the wrong, but if you learn on
an electric you'll find an acoustic guitar much hard to
play and you'll need an amp etc.
2. Cut your fingernails on your left
hand (if you are right-handed else the opposite way round)
really short. Nails interfere with the sound and once you
practice enough your finger-tips toughen up you'll sound
great. To get your fingertips hard you will have to practice
and practice. They will hurt, they might even bleed now
and then but a little pain never hurt anyone.
3. Learn these basic chords individually
as a starting lesson ( bookmark the page )
Try to keep your fingers close to (but
not touching) to the metal frets.
Learn the chords individually then practice
chord progressions. Basically just try and learn changing
between different chords. The best way is to learn by playing
songs.

4.. Go to a music shop and buy a really
basic song book (make sure you like a few of the songs).
When you start to play, it's far easier to play the basic
chords so find a book that mainly has A, C, D, Dm, E, Em,
F and G chords . You will learn variations of these as you
go along.
5. The hard part after learning the basic
chords is learning how to change from one chord to the next.
The only way to learn this is to practice over and over.
I've been practising one particular tune since I started
playing three years ago and I still can't play it all the
way through without making at least one mistake so never
give up.

Here are some really usefull links for
getting songs chords lyrics tabs etc.
